Claire Frechette Mahoney

Claire Frechette Mahoney, 89, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 14, 2018, surrounded by the love and prayers of her four children and her husband Jack. She was the daughter of Oscar and Elizabeth Frechette. Claire grew up in Pawtucket, with her brother Oscar, and her sisters Phyllis and Doris. Unknowingly at that time she lived one half mile from her future husband Jack. She graduated in 1945 from Pawtucket East High School, and she worked at Brown for several years. In 1949, shortly after Jack graduated from Brown, Claire and Jack married. They settled in Pawtucket and began raising their family. In 1962 they moved to Providence, and in 1985 they relocated to Wakefield. She was the beloved wife of Jack for sixty-eight happy years. Far from world travelers, Claire and Jack enjoyed overseas trips to Italy and Ireland with the Brown University group. They spent many spring months in Florida. Claire had countless close friends. She loved entertaining them with delectable recipes of her own. She also took special joy in providing comfort to those in need. Claire lived for her family, and much of her time was spent fostering hobbies that contributed to the warmth of her home and theirs. Each grandchild was welcomed with a needlepoint Christmas stocking and all families have a Claire quilted baby blanket. Claire never wavered in putting her own schedule aside when family called. She was the loving mother of Jack and his wife Kathy, Susan and her husband Andrew, Kevin and his wife Dotty, and Ted and his wife Mary. She leaves twelve extraordinary grandchildren: John, Emmy, Jed, Kathryn, Lindsay, Hilary, Joe, Kevin, Dennis, Laura, Chris and Scott. She was blessed with eleven great grandchildren. Visiting hours are Wednesday, January 17 from 5 to 7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street in Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18 at St. Marys Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Road, Narragansett at 11 am.
