Charles Gerard Brady, age 100, of Duxbury, Massachusetts and Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025 at South County Hospital. He was the son of the late John E. Brady and Josephine A. (Murphy) of Weymouth, Massachusetts, and brother to the late John Jr., Ethel and Mary.
Charlie graduated from Weymouth High School in Massachusetts and later took several history and business courses at Northeastern University. His first job at 17 years old was at Stetson Shoe Factory in Weymouth, MA. He then worked for McKesson Pharmaceutical from 1944-1964. In 1965 he took a position at General Dynamics Quincy Shipyard as a general pipe fitter and moved to Hingham Shipyard working as a maintenance plumber until it closed. Charlie then became a house painter and lastly joined the team at Fox Run Nursery in Pembroke, MA where he enjoyed working in the garden center.
Anyone who knew Charlie had the privilege of knowing a true gentleman. He was a kind, loving, caring person with a sharp wit and charismatic personality. He loved music from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s with his favorites being Nelson Eddy, Jeanette MacDonald, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Paul Robeson. Those who knew him would tell you Charlie had a great sense of humor and when he smiled, he made the world a little brighter.
Charlie was a Communicant of Holy Family Church in Duxbury, MA and more recently a Communicant of St. Thomas More Church in Narragansett, RI.
He was the devoted longtime friend and companion of the late Josephine C. McNeil (Chiero) for forty years and is survived by Josephine’s son, John McNeil of Narragansett, RI and Carol Fabbri of Narragansett, RI whom he lived with for the last ten years. Other survivors include, John McNeil Jr. and his children Ella, Wyatt and Frances of San Francisco, California, Lew Anne West of Memphis, Tennessee, David Elliott of Pembroke, Massachusetts and John Healy of Brookline, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind a small circle of devoted and loving friends.
His family would like to acknowledge the loving assistance provided by his caregivers while at home and the entire staff at Elderwood of Scallop Shell in Wakefield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas More Church, in Narragansett on Tuesday, March 4th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Mayflower Cemetery, 774 Tremont Street, Duxbury, Massachusetts.
