Cecilia N. Baker

Cecilia N. Baker, 90, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024. Cecilia was born on September 20, 1933, in Fall River, MA. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Janina (Radzik) Nowak. She was a proud resident of South Kingstown, living year-round in Matunuck after residing for many years in Cumberland. Cecilia was married to Donald T. Baker for 59 years until his death in 2017. She was the sister to John, the late Walter, Mary, Edward, Sophie, Emily, Joseph and Frederick.


Cecilia was a 1951 graduate of Durfee High School and earned her master's degree in education from Rhode Island College. She taught at Cumberland High School for 25 years where she imparted her love of math to her students.


Cecilia was an avid reader and die-hard Patriots fan, often astonishing her audience with the latest stats. She was a member of the Matunuck Point Beach Club for over fifty years. She walked 10,000 steps daily while strolling around the neighborhood. Cecilia had an ever-flowering collection of orchids, and their blooms brought everyone joy. She enjoyed participating in the exercise classes at the South County YMCA. She also attended the South Kingstown Senior Center, where she spent time with her fellow seniors and composed poems about the ocean.


She is survived by her children, Lauren Baker-Hart and her husband, Jay, Patricia Hanschen and her husband, JR, Steven Baker and his wife, Jackie, as well as her seven beloved grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.


The funeral mass and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
