Carolyn Hearn

February 7, 1923 — April 18, 2009

Carolyn Hearn, 86, formerly of Moonstone Beach Road, died Saturday. She was the former wife of the late John Hearn. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Alfred C. and Mary (Curtis) Browning. Mrs. Hearn was the Library Coordinator for the Westerly Library System, overseeing 13 libraries. She was credited with bringing the library system into the 20th Century by adding computers. In the 1960’s, she was one of the leading advocates for stopping the construction of a Nuclear Power Plant at the old Charlestown Air Base. She is survived by two sons, Christopher Hearn of Providence and Peter Hearn of Narragansett; two sisters, Lynthia Tormey of Randolph, VT and Barbara Weibel of Narragansett. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 AM in New Fernwood Cemetery, Route 138, Kingston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 2115 South County Trail, West Kingston, RI 02892.
