Carol E. Kalberer

December 20, 1932 — January 26, 2024

Carol Eaton Kalberer of South Kingstown, and formerly of North Smithfield and Providence, RI, passed away on January 26th, 2024 at home.

Carol was born in Peace Dale, RI on December 20, 1932, the daughter of Reuben Bartlett Eaton, Sr. and Sarah Curtis Eaton. Her siblings Bart, Harriet, and Bobbie predeceased her, and her brother Col. Curtis Abbot Eaton has been missing in action since August 14, 1966, when the Air Force plane he was piloting was shot down over Vietnam.

Carol was a graduate of South Kingstown High School, and received a B.A. from the University of Rhode Island in 1955. This was where she met a fellow student, and the love of her life, Robert Kalberer, to whom she was married for over sixty-five years before he passed away in 2021.

Carol was a homemaker par excellence while raising her four children. She was a stylish, kind woman with a great sense of humor. In addition to being a great cook, she had a keen artistic eye and was an amateur interior designer and gardener, a talented decorative furniture painter, and a past member of the Handicraft Club (Providence) and the South County Garden Club of Rhode Island. In the 1960’s she was President of the Woonsocket Family & Child Service. In addition, she is a past member of the Hope Club in Providence and The Daughters of the American Revolution. This summer would have been her 61st season as a member of the Dunes Club in Narragansett.

Carol was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family. She is mourned by her children Robert C. Kalberer of South Kingstown, RI and Colorado, Julie Kalberer Turino of Millbrook, NY, Peter L. Kalberer of Albuquerque, NM, her son-in-law James Turino and daughter-in-law Grace Kalberer, and her grandchildren Caroline and Christopher Turino. Carol’s beloved daughter Amy Kalberer Sullivan and son-in-law Jay Sullivan both predeceased her.

Burial will be private. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
