Carol Lynnette Johnson passed peacefully on March 15, 2017 after a long and valiant struggle. Carol was born September 29, 1944 in Sac City, Iowa, the youngest daughter of the Reverend Asa and Nellie Popp. She graduated from Ottawa University in Kansas with a degree in Education and then traveled east to each English. In 1968, Carol married the love of her life, Paul Johnson, Sr. and together they raised three children; Paul Jr., Cheryl, and Steven. Living in Wakefield, RI and Thomaston, CT, Carol and Paul made many close friends and enriched many people's lives. Carol's many hobbies included baking Christmas cookies, making homemade jams, reading, playing board games with her grandchildren, doing puzzles, sewing, and making innovative arts and crafts items for church bazaars. An avid musician, Carol served as a church organist and choir member at Wakefield Baptist Church, Covenent Church in Thomaston, and Central Baptist Church in Westerly. Carol was a quilter. She ventured out on many quilting “shop hops” with friends and continually took quilting classes so she could learn more. The countless quilts she made for her loved ones to celebrate life's milestones are family treasures. Her greatest love was for her family, including her husband, her three children, their spouses and her nine grandchildren: Maryjane, Samuel, and Eli Johnson; Adam, Anna, and Caleb Dutrumble; and Makayla, Kristian, and Molly Johnson, to whom she gave unparallelled love and are forever members of “Grama's All Star Team.” Carol considered all of her friends and family a joy to be treasured. Carol is survived by her husband, her three children: Paul Jr. and his wife Patricia, Cheryl and her husband Dan Dutrumble, Steve and his wife Heather Johnson and their families, her brother Harold and his wife Vicky Popp, and loving extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Rev. Asa and Nellie, her sister Joyce, and her brother Clair. She is now in the hand of her Savior. A memorial service will be held at Central Baptist Church in Westerly, RI on Sunday, March 26, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to: Central Baptist Church 16 Elm St. Westerly, RI 02891-2126.
