Carol Ann Christensen, 72 of Peace Dale, RI died on November 15, 2009. Miss Christensen was the daughter of the late Ethel (Gould) Christensen Rosenbalm and the late Harry Paul Christensen. Miss Christensen is survived by her best friend for 32 years, Marjorie J. Hanson, of Hope Valley, RI.; four nephews, five nieces, fifteen great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many very special people who became part of her family and called her Aunt Carol. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Blankenship; four brothers, Martin Christensen, Donald Nicholas Christensen, James Walter Christensen, Christian Smith Christensen; step-brothers, Harry Ely and Hugh Ely, and a step-sister, Beverly Barnes. Miss Christensen belonged to many organizations and was Director of Transportation for the Narragansett School System for twenty-one years. Miss Christensen was also a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. She was the first woman on the Park Police with the Department of Natural Resources. She was listed in the Who’s Who in American Women and the Who’s Who of Women in Non-Traditional Jobs. She was a member of The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; Charter Member of the Emergency Medical Technicians Association; Life member of V.F.W. Post 916 Auxiliary, Wakefield, RI.; past Deputy Director of Civil Defense for the town of Narragansett, RI; past member of the American Red Cross National Disaster Team; past volunteer in the South County Hospital Emergency Team; past member of the South County Ambulance Corp.; past member of the Board of Directors RI Chapter American Red Cross; past South Region Chairperson RI Chapter American Red Cross; past trainer for school bus drivers for the RI Department of Education and Child Development Center at RI Hospital; and a past coach of the Peppermint Patties Little League, Narragansett, RI. Miss Christensen was recognized with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition 1996; Honor Award - Special Citation For Exceptional Volunteer Service American Red Cross;1994; Honor Award for Exemplary Volunteer Leadership in Disaster Services in Rhode Island and the Midwest 1995; Certificates of Appreciation from: the State Fire Marshall 1996; Emergency Management Agency 1996; American Red Cross - North Cape Oil Spill Cleanup 1996; American Red Cross - Life On The Mississippi 1993; American Red Cross - Blizzard of 1992; as well as other prominent certificates. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 AM in the Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main Street, Wakefield. Visiting hours are at the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday 5-7 PM. Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hope Valley.
