C. Stephen Dr. Szlatenyi

Dr. C. Stephen Szlatenyi, Jr., 65, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 3, 2017. He was the loving husband of Valerie (Ferrara) Szlatenyi. Born in Providence to the late C. Stephen and Roberta (Henry) Szlatenyi. Steve was a physician in the emergency department for Rhode Island Hospital and Kent County hospital many years. He also worked in the Wound Recovery and Hyerbarics Medical Center at Kent. He was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church as well as the Wakefield Rotary Club and DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistant Team) of Rhode Island. He also ran a non-profit foundation called Health on Earth for many years. Steve was a black belt in Aikido, a private pilot, an avid sailor and boat builder. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Chris Szlatenyi, Dena Ortiz and her husband Ernesto, his sisters Deb Tosoni and her husband Rocco, Judith Szlatenyi, and grandchildren Frankie, Leticia Ortiz and nieces and nephews A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 12:00 pm in Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main St, Wakefield.
