Bruce M. Tavares, 64, of Westerly, passed away Saturday. He was the beloved husband of Anne Marie (Bergeron) Tavares for 39 years. Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of Joseph Tavares of Georgia and the late Dorothy (Francis) Tavares, formerly of Warren. Mr. Tavares was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was a computer programmer/analyst, most recently working for Bank of America. He remained very active with the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity serving as a Chapter Advisor. He was very active in the community as his children were growing up serving as a Little League Coach and was “The Voice of Chariho” from his time announcing the play by play for Chariho Football games. Besides his wife and father he is survived by three children Benjamin Tavares and his wife Ashlie of Lincoln, Laura Linehan and her husband Rich of Millbury, MA, and Sam Tavares of North Providence; two grandchildren Camille Tavares and Brighton Linehan; a sister, Tricia Ball of Georgia; and a brother Brian Tavares of Georgia. He was predeceased by a brother William Tavares. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Seating will be limited and the Mass will be live-streamed, www.ctkri.org. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private.
