Br. William T. Farias, FSC, 70, of the Brother Charles Henry Community in North Providence, died peacefully at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence on February 27, 2021. Br. William was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on March 1, 1950. He was the son of the late George M. Farias and Dorothy (Bravo) Branco. He is survived by his stepmother, Alfreda Farias, sister Jacqueline McKane and husband Robert, stepbrother, Thomas Drzal and wife Paula, brother-in-law, Fernando Silveira, several nieces and nephews, and his dearest friend, Sr. Pat Rahaim, SSJ. His brother George J. Farias, and sister, Deborah Silveira, pre-deceased him. He entered the Novitiate of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Narragansett, Rhode Island, in 1967; he then went to the Scholasticate at De La Salle College in Washington, D.C. from 1968 – 1970 and finished his studies at the College of St. Rose in upstate New York. He began his teaching career at La Salle School in Albany, NY, taking his Perpetual Vows in Albany in 1975. Br. William dedicated his life to teaching and was blessed to spend most of his teaching career in Rhode Island. He taught at St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket from 1985 until 2001. While at St. Ray’s he was honored with the Lasallian Distinguished Educator of the Year in 1999. He finished his teaching career at La Salle Academy in Providence from 2001 until 2011, when he retired due to health-related issues. A beloved teacher of thousands of high school students over the years, he was affectionately called “Brother Good” by his cherished students. A private Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021. Donations in Br.
