LTC Brian P. Martin US Army Ret., 76, of Riverview, FL, formerly of South Kingstown, passed away Friday, November 4, 2021, at Advent Health Center in Tampa, FL, after a short illness. He was the husband of Belinda Ann (Lum) Martin and the son of the late Justin Martin and Doris Martin Beck. LTC Martin serviced in the US Army Medical Corp for 23 years from 1968 to 1992, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, Army Commendation Medal with 2 OLC, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2). Brian was a graduate of South Kingstown High School, 1963; The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy 1968; US Army Medical Supply and Services Course, Fort Sam Houston, TX; MBA from American University Washington, CD 1976; Army Medical Department Officer Advanced Course Fort Sam Houston, TX 1977; MEd from Boston University, MA 1982; Command and General Staff College Fort Leavenworth, KS 1983. After retirement from the US Army, Brian continued his career in pharmacy and nutrition in the private sector in both Maryland and Florida, serving as Director of Pharmacy in several locations. He was further instrumental in the adoption of computer aided record keeping for the filling of prescriptions at the Suncoast Community Health Center, Ruskin, FL, in the early 1990s. Brian never completely retired but continued to serve in any way he could from director to filling prescriptions. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sisters Joyce (Martin) Holland and he husband John “Jack” of Narragansett, RI, Marsh (Martin) Cobb of Carrollton, TX; brothers Michael Martin of El Paso, TX, and David Martin of El Paso, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Rhode Island, Texas, and Missouri. When not pursuing his career, he was considered an avid sailor and frequently enjoyed sailing and working on his boat in various locations around the country during his military service and in retirement. He further enjoyed landscape construction on his own property and frequently had the best-looking lawn on the street. Funeral services will be private.
