Br. Timothy Tarmey, FSC, 76 of De La Salle Hall, New Jersey, formerly of Christian Brothers Center, Narragansett, Rhode Island, died on July 26, 2022. Br. Timothy was born in New York, New York on November 30, 1945. He is survived by his sister Clare Corr and her husband John and his niece Maryellen Corr. He entered the Novitiate in Barrytown, New York in 1963, where he received the Religious Habit and the name Timothy Damian. His Perpetual Vows were pronounced in Detroit, MI in 1974. Br. Timothy went to the Scholasticate at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., from 1964-1968. He immediately began his beloved teaching career at Sacred Heart School in Yonkers, NY. His teaching journey took him to Detroit, Lincroft, New Jersey and later La Salle Academy in NYC as well as Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY. Staff and students affectionately knew him as a vibrant educator whose passion for teaching was always evident both in and out of the classroom. A large part of his career was spent at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY from 1996 – 2008, finishing at La Salle Institute in Troy, NY 2009 – 2016. During his near 50 years teaching, he embraced every opportunity to fulfill the vision of St. John Baptist De La Salle. He was a mentor to many students, a role model of his Catholic faith, and fondly remembered as one of the best travel agent/chaperones, organizing many trips abroad for his students and friends. His love of travel to Ireland was apparent by his favorite collections that he acquired from his travels. In 2016, Br. Timothy moved to Rhode Island and lived in the Christian Brothers Community in Narragansett, eventually moving to De La Salle Hall in New Jersey in 2021 for health reasons. Visitation will be held Monday, August 1, 2022, at 10:15 am at The Chapel of Our Lady of the Star, Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 am. Burial will take place at Christian Brothers Cemetery following Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Rd, Narragansett, RI, 02882.
