Br. Richard D. Connors FSC, 85, of De La Salle Hall, New Jersey, formerly of Christian Brothers Center, Narragansett, Rhode Island, died on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Br. Richard was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 9, 1935. He was the son of the late Daniel F. Connors and Agnes C. (King) Connors. He is survived by his brother, Francis Connors, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. His sister, Brenda M. Doran, predeceases him. He entered the Novitiate in Barrytown, New York, in 1953; he went to the Scholasticate at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. from 1954 – 1958. He then began his teaching career in history at St. Augustine's High School in Brooklyn. He took his Perpetual Vows in Barrytown in 1960. He received his Master's in Religious Education from Catholic University and a Master's in Education for Counseling from Rhode Island College. Br. Richard was instrumental in many students' lives through his teaching and counseling roles at Mater Christi, Astoria, NY, La Salle Military Academy, Oakdale, NY, St. Raphael Academy, and La Salle Academy, Providence, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Brooklyn, and finished his career in 2002 as a guidance counselor at The Prout School, Wakefield, RI. He relished his time in the classroom educating students about history and religion and encouraged them to be creative in their studies and endeavors. Throughout his career, he was a gifted guidance counselor with an innate ability to connect with students on various levels. During his 20-year retirement at Christian Brothers Center in Narragansett, Br. Richard remained active in several counseling ministries. He was an avid reader and was passionate about his beloved hobby of painting. Burial will be private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Star Chapel, Christian Brothers Center at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Br. Richard's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
