Br. Loreto Anthony Scotto, FSC, 86, of Christian Brothers Center Narragansett, Rhode Island, died on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Br. Loreto Anthony was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 7, 1934. He was the son of the late Dominic and Anna (Mennella) Scotto. He is survived by his sisters Leticia (Lee) Scotto and Marie Scotto and his nieces Judy Kozlow, and Annmarie Dinan. He was predeceased by his sisters Nancy Scotto and Gloria Weis. After finishing the Novitiate in Barrytown, New York, he went to the Scholasticate at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. from 1953 – 1957. He then began his treasured teaching career in science/biology at La Salle Academy in Providence. He entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1959, where he was devoted to his ministries and his love of teaching. Br. Anthony changed the lives of many students through his teaching and administrative roles at De La Salle Academy in Newport, Rhode Island, La Salle Military Academy in Oakdale, New York, Bishop Bradley High School in Manchester, New Hampshire, Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey, and La Salle Center in Oakdale, New York. He was passionate about education and the arts and immersed himself in continuing education opportunities throughout his life, including receiving a Master’s in Biology at Brown University. Br. Anthony enjoyed being a De La Salle Christian Brother. He gave 100% of himself in all that he did and was very loyal to the Brothers. He loved his family very much and always tried to please them. Br. Anthony was very intense in all that he did—teaching, working in Community, and concern for the hungry. He was very compassionate but demanding of himself and others. Funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI 02882.
