Betty Ann Howard

Betty Ann Howard, 83, of Naples, FL and summer resident of Green Hill, RI, died February 15, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Howard for 59 years. Born in Mt Vernon, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. Lyden and Margaret M. (Meehan) Lyden. Betty, an avid tennis player, bridge partner, and gardener was a homemaker and later worked as a realtor for many years in New York. A former resident of Yorktown Heights, New York, she served on the recreation advisory council and was active in forming the ladies tennis league in that community. She was also a lectern minister at St. James Chapel, a member of the Green Hill Civic Association, loved the beach, was a sports enthusiast, and loved animals, especially her dog JJ. She will be remembered as being a wonderful mom who demonstrated much enthusiasm and love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by five children; Margaret M. Howard of Charlestown, Maura Howard McGill of Green Hill (wife of Steven McGill), Terence M. Howard of Fairfield, CT (husband of Rena Howard), C. David Howard of Washington, DC, and Christopher P. Howard of Charlotte, NC. She was predeceased by a son, the late Thomas J. Howard, Jr. Betty is also survived by nine grandchildren; Shawn McGill (husband of Caitlin Rogers McGill), Brenna McGill, Bridget McGill, Liam McGill, Catherine Howard, Matthew Howard, Gabrielle Howard, Aidan Howard, and Jillian Howard; four great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 6 at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Chapel in Charlestown. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the RI Alzheimer's Foundation.
