Benjamin F. Potter, Jr., of Holiday, Florida, died August 17, 2016 at Spring Hill Rehab and Nursing Center, after a short illness. Born September 22, 1930, in Peace Dale, RI, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Carolyn M. (Hendrick) Potter. His Son, Mark Potter predeceased him on February 19, 2010. He leaves Barbara Potter, his former wife and best friend of Wakefield; a sister Patricia Bingham Spencer of Clearwater, Florida; and many first and second cousins all of Wakefield and surrounding towns. Ben served as a Radio Operator in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and received a good conduct medal. He loved to paint pictures for long periods at his home in Connecticut where he and his family lived for 30 years. You could also find him fishing and one year he won the 56th Annual Fishing Contest from Field and Stream. Ben was a graduate of South Kingstown High School, class of 1948, and then attended the University of Rhode Island. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney for 30 years as a Computer Program Analyst. While there he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Charter Oak College in Hartford, CT. As a Ham Radio Operator he spent time talking to people all over the world many months before his death. He also held a Private Pilot’s license while he was living in Connecticut and would fly from Somers Airport in Connecticut to Westerly Airport. He eventually moved back to Rhode Island for quite a few years, living at the Village at Worden’s Pond, and then decided to move to Florida for the warm climate. He will be truly missed by many, especially his best friend Barbara. A private Christian and military service will be held in St. Francis Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
