Obituary

Barbara “Babs” Wallace, 96, of South Kingstown, RI, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 10, 1930, in Mount Lebanon, PA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Beatrice (Foulk) Morrison and was the sister of the late Beatrice Smith.

Babs was a graduate of Carniege Mellon with a degree in Social Science. After college, she worked for the city of Willington, DE as a temporary director. Babs was ahead of her time as an advocate for including girls in all sports. She ran the sports program for girls, as well as the boy’s wrestling and basketball teams. She also began the kindergarten program and taught swimming at the YMCA.

She was a member of the Girl Scouts for over 60 years and received the “Thanks Badge” in 1979, which was the highest award for adult Girl Scouts, in recognition of her years of service and devotion. Babs was a troop leader for over 20 years and worked in product sales for 40 years, which included cookie sales. She was known to all as “the cookie lady” for Southgansett, filling her home from floor to ceiling with cookies during sale season. Babs also served her community by delivering Meals on Wheels for 16 years.

She was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Wallace, recently celebrating 73 years of marriage. She was “the voice” behind Wallace Tree Service from 1954 – 2023, running the office and still answering calls until a short time ago.

Babs is survived by her children, Susan Wallace, Sharon Wallace and her husband Brad Highling, Bill Wallace and his wife Nancy Scarduzio, Scott Wallace and his wife Donna.

Her greatest joy was being Nana to her 4 grandchildren, Benjamin Wallace, Lindsey Connelly and her husband Patrick, Kristina Gayle and her husband Stephen, and Shannen Wallace. She was their biggest supporter and would not miss any of their sporting events, whether it be soccer, softball, volleyball, horsemanship and dance recitals. Nana made every occasion special, establishing family traditions and birthdays and making amazing, themed cakes for their birthdays. She also leaves her great grandsons, Cameron and Owen Connelly and a third great grandson on the way.

Arrangements are in the care of Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI 02879. Service information will be announced at a later date. Please check www.averystortifuneralhome.com for updates.
