Barbara J. Notte

August 24, 1939 — April 7, 2014

Barbara Jean Notte (Iafrati) passed peacefully at her Wakefield, RI home on April 7th. following a brief illness. She was born in 1939 in Richmond, Virginia and was the beloved daughter of the late John and Helen Iafrati of Warwick, Rhode Island. She was the loving wife of the late John Notte III (d. 2004) and the beloved mother of Joyce (Steve) Hudon of Ramsey, NJ, Jean of San Diego, CA, John (Michele) of Gloucester, MA and Jeff (Amanda) of Los Angeles, CA. Adored Nana of Lauren, Michael and Brandon Hudon and Nick, Isaac and Adelaide Notte. Sadly missed by Aunts: Dorothy Meads, Joy Hamner and Esther Caprio and beloved by countless cousins and friends. She was a graduate of Classical High School (1957) and Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing (1960). She worked as a nurse at Mass General in Boston when first married, and then as an Emergency Room nurse at Rhode Island Hospital. She loved being at home when her own children were young and then went back to work in Nursing Home Administration in the late 1970s. She gladly retired in 1993 when her first granddaughter was born and loved spending time with all six of her grandchildren. She loved watching them grow and looked forward to all of their games and recitals. She loved her family, friends, travel, the arts and learning. She was very involved with Classical High Schools and RIH School of Nursings reunion committees and spent countless hours planning and enjoying their many reunions. She loved her classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at URI and also enjoyed participating in events at the Wakefield Senior Center. She was very active in activities with her friends at Wakefield Meadows. Until recently, she was taking tap classes and her grandchildren loved the time they went to her class to watch her dance they were always her biggest fans. She was a very enthusiastic kayaker despite some watery mishaps. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at Swan Point Chapel in Providence, RI on May 10th at 11:00 AM. One of Barbaras favorite sayings was, "Do something nice for someone today." So in lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
