Barbara J Fay

Barbara J. Fay, 86, of 76 Atlantic St., Snug Harbor, passed away Tuesday, July 4th, 2023. She was the wife of the late Alfred L. Fay. Barbara was also a resident of South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Kingston for the last 5 plus years during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.


Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Margaret (Ross) Smith. Mrs. Fay started as a switchboard operator then promoted to supervisor, later transferring NYNEX working in sales and network marketing before retiring. She was active with the Pioneers Club associated with NE Telephone well after her retirement. Barbara was an active member of the church both in RI and Florida, where she stayed with her beloved “Tommy” during the winter months.


Mrs. Fay was an avid artist and painter and received recognition at art shows both in Florida and RI. She supported other local artisans, frequently attending various arts and crafts shows and farmers markets while exploring the east coast from Maine to Florida. In addition to her artistry, Barbara was a lifelong card shark, of which her favorite games included Hi-Lo Jack, Poker and Cribbage. Her game passion hit its peak with her status as a true "Bingo Nut" all decked out with her special colored daubers and ceramic squirrel nut figurine proving lucky to her many secured wins over the years.


Known as a social butterfly, she loved entertaining her family and friends at their cherished beach house, especially on the 4th of July.


She was the mother of Kimberly Tremblay, Karen Nichols and the late Brian Fay; sister of the late Donald Smith, and cousin William Brown. She also leaves three grandchildren, Andrea Raponi, Sabrina Miles and Jennifer Tremblay and 4 great grandchildren.


Her visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13th, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 14th at 10:00 a.m. St. Francis Church, 114 High Street in South Kingstown. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center c/o Activities Fund, 2115 South County Trail, West Kingston, RI 02892.
