Arthur W. Dawley, Sr., 88, of Wakefield, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, after an 18 year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Carol P. (Gordineer) Dawley for 68 years. Born in Charlestown, RI, he was the son of the late John J. A. and Margaret (Green) Dawley.
He graduated from Westerly High School, Class of ’54; was a member of Peace Dale Congregational Church and the Rhode Island National Guard, Battery D., 705th, from 1953-1961.
Arthur retired from General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Kings Bay, GA. He was an avid golfer for 52 years with a Hole-in-One on April 1, 1997. In retirement he took up wood carving, mostly of water birds, Santa Claus figurines and a most treasured Nativity, his canvas was a tree of any kind. He so enjoyed reading mystery novels.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Lee Wible and her husband Chris of Eliot, ME; son Arthur W. Dawley, Jr. of Charlestown; Arthur Jr.’s companion Mary Hegarty of Wakefield; grandsons, Christopher Wible, Jr. of Nashua, NH and Andrew Wible and his wife Kate of Tucson, AZ; great-granddaughters, Dylan Caroline, Tallulah and Juniper; his loyal rescue feline, Baby Girl Lilly and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by siblings Margaret, Olive, John, Esther Fleck, Frederick and Joann Werrbach, his devoted nephew, Col. John E. Dawley, Jr. who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
