Anna V. Picozzi of Narragansett, RI passed away on July 11, 2025 at the age of 92. A resident of the Harbour Island community in Narragansett, Anna will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many family members and friends.
Anna was born in Providence, RI on February 5, 1933, to the late Michael D. Mainelli and Concetta (Ferrante) Mainelli. She was an early graduate ahead of her class from Mt. Pleasant High School and went on to work at WPRO radio in Providence, also being part of the launch of WPRO television network. After many years as a homemaker (and wonderful Italian food cook!), she served as a departmental executive secretary at the Providence VA Hospital, and the American Mathematical Society.
A serious Scrabble enthusiast, Anna competed at tournaments in the New England area. She was a crossword puzzle devotee, avid reader, and dedicated supporter of her local library, where she was a frequent visitor for books and foreign films. Anna was also a life-long swimmer, where you could find her at the YMCA in the winter and enjoying the cove in front of her brother’s nearby home in Harbour Island in the summer.
She is survived by her children, Anne E. Picozzi of Seminole FL, David M. Picozzi of Ponte Vedra Beach FL, and Paul M. Picozzi of Coventry RI, and her beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Sara), Amanda, and Alex Picozzi, as well as her dear nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her sisters, Lorna Mainelli and Jean Metayer, and brother Domenic Mainelli.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 22, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 am at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI. Following visitation, A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where Anna was a parishioner, 864 Point Judith Rd., Narragansett, RI at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s memory may be made to the Maury Loontjens Library in Narragansett, 25 Pier Marketplace, Narragansett, RI 02882, or Harbour Island Community Improvement Association, PO Box 685, Narragansett RI 02882.
