Ann Fogarty, 73, of Narragansett, Rhode Island passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 after a brief illness. Born in Providence to the late Dr. Thomas and Mary (Hayes) Fogarty, Ann attended Emmanuel College in Boston and spent much of her career in mortgage underwriting. Soon after college she met the love of her life, James "Russ" Bonetti, to whom she was happily married for 45 years before his death in 2024. Ann and Russ were inseparable and came to be known by that sobriquet without separation of the component names.
Ann and Russ spent their early years together in the North End of Boston; after a brief stint in Weymouth, they made Cohasset their home for decades. Ann was famous for her incredible brownies and her love of chocolate; she insisted that chocolate possessed medicinal qualities, and, despite (nearly) unanimous opinions to the contrary, adamantly declared plum pudding with homemade hard sauce to be "the food of the gods."
Ann and Russ spent many a summer day bodysurfing in Narragansett followed by a visit to Brickley's for ice cream (chocolate, of course). Throughout their marriage, they adopted numerous rescue greyhounds and had a menagerie of cats they adored. Ann, the keeper of family photos and opinionated family history, maintained a lifelong interest in horseracing orientated around the lead-up to the Triple Crown. Inherently cautious with money, she never bet.
She and Russ attended Boston's inaugural First Night on December 31, 1976; they never missed one after that, and, likely due to that streak, developed into fireworks connoisseurs and sought out the best firework shows throughout New England.
Ann was famed and feared for her mordant wit.
Survivors include Ann's brother, James Fogarty of Marion, MA and Mary Elizabeth Loberg of Los Angeles, CA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Fogarty of Darien, CT, and her husband, Russ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann's memory may be made to the animal rescue charity of your choosing.
Memorial services will be private.
