Andrea A. Thayer

Andrea A. Thayer, 65, of 42 Granite St., Westerly, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at South County Hospital in Wakefield after a short illness. Andrea, the daughter of the late Silas Warren and Eleanor (Crandall) Thayer, was born on June 5, 1951, at South County Hospital. She was a graduate of Chariho Regional High School, Class of 1969, where she was a student in the gifted program. She spent most of her working life at newspapers. She was employed in the advertising production department of the Westerly Sun from 1979 to 1985. She also worked as an editorial assistant for many years at the Narragansett Times and the South County Independent. Her last position was as bookkeeper at the former Hoxsie Buick in Westerly. Andi, as she was known, enjoyed hiking the trails of South County, particularly at Watchaug Pond in Charlestown and the Canonchet area of Hopkinton. She also was a bargain-hunter who frequented consignment and thrift shops. She was a generous soul who never forget a birthday or anniversary and was known for sending out greeting cards even on the most obscure holidays. She is survived by her sister, Betty J. Cotter of Wakefield; her brother-in-law, Timothy J. Cotter; and her beloved nephews and niece, Perry S. Cotter of Pawcatuck, Conn., Colby J. Cotter of Wakefield, and Mary A. Cotter of Shannock. She was the sister of the late Mary Jane Charland and the companion of the late William Brear. Friends are invited to call at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Wood River Cemetery, Route 3, Hope Valley.
