Alyce Brown Champlin Machado,73, of Peace Dale, passed away Monday. She was the former wife of the late Abel R. Machado and longtime companion of Albert J. Gonsalves Jr. Born in South County, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Brown) Champlin. Mrs. Machado was a direct descendent of the Royal House of Canonicus and a Traditional Matriarch of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. She was on the board of trustees of the RI Indian Council from 1978 to 1990, a member and elder of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. She was an attendant for the Providence Public Library, a Pharmacist Technician at Miriam Hospital and RI State Institutions and worked as an Electrocardiogram Technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She is survived by sons, Abel R. Machado Jr. of Cranston, K. Michael Machado of Narragansett; daughters, April Ann Machado of East Providence, Deirdre Machado-Tomar of Providence, Chandra Machado of South Kingstown, Angelita Beltran of Charlestown, Bella Noka of Richmond, Noela Machado of North Providence and Chasity Machado of Charlestown; brothers, George and Scott Champlin; sister Berniece Champlin all of Kingston; 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at noon at the Narragansett Indian Church, Indian Church Rd., Charlestown. Visiting hours Friday 3-7 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
