Alwilda Frances Botka, 89, of Charlestown, peacefully passed away at her residence, surrounded by her beloved husband of 70 years, Charles Sr, her devoted son Charles Jr, and daughter-in-law Sheila. Born on October 23rd, 1934, in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bertha Muller.
Affectionately known as Allie, she shared a cherished bond with her husband, Charles Botka Sr., spanning 70 years, with their anniversary set for November 28, 2023. Allie initially pursued a promising ballet career in New York but chose to relinquish it upon meeting Charles and discovering the enchanting Charlestown, Rhode Island.
Fond memories hark back to her youth, as a 15-year-old, when she, along with her friend Carol, embarked on a journey to Charlestown, seeking respite from the New York heat. The chance encounter with Charles Sr.’s parents, Norbert and Lydia Botka, on their private dock by Pasquiset Pond, marked the beginning of a beautiful love story.
After tying the knot at Marble Collegiate Church in New York on November 28th, Allie and Charles settled into the family farmhouse on Pasquiset Pond. With a piece of land graciously bestowed upon them by Charles’s parents, they laid the foundation of their home by hand, leading to a fulfilling life raising their three children, Debbie, Sandy, and Charlie.
Allie dedicated many years to her role as a secretary at Kenyon Piece and Dye, and in their retirement, she and Charles spent several winters in Naples, Florida. Her passions included tennis, shuffleboard, nature walks, and travel. Additionally, she found joy in painting, leaving behind a collection of serene pond and wildlife artworks. As she aged, her love for puzzles remained strong, with daily engagements alongside her caregivers in Charlestown.
Gratitude is extended to the exceptional caregivers, Mandi, Susan, Cindy, Gloria, Sashalee, and Melissa, who provided invaluable support throughout Allie’s later years. Special thanks are also due to the nursing staff of Hospice, particularly Dianna from Hospice Hope Health.
Survived by her adoring husband, Charles Sr., and their children Debra Williams of Florida, Sandra McMinn of Tennessee, and Charles Jr. and his wife Sheila Botka of Charlestown, Allie leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her dear friend of many years, Dorothy Baker of Westerly, RI.
A celebration of Allie’s life is scheduled for Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at 12 pm noon, to be held at the residence of Charles Botka Sr. on 170 Botka Drive, Charlestown. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Hope Health Wakefield office @ 143 Main Street ,Wakefield RI 02879
