Alicia passed away peacefully on October 31, 2022 after bravely fighting a long illness, surrounded by her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved son, James Conlon, who says he was very lucky to have had her as his mother. Her role as James' mom was the most important in her life. She adored being his mother. Alicia also leaves her sisters, Christine Anderson, Gail Anderson and Karen Hackett; her brother David Anderson; sister-in-law, Peggy Anderson; brothers-in-law, Chuck Hackett and Doyle Daniel; and nine nieces and nephews. Her husband Michael predeceased Alicia in 2012 after 35 years of marriage.
Alicia loved to have fun. She was named the ‘Adventure Aunt’ by nieces and nephews, who she joined jumping the waves and boogie boarding at Narragansett Beach and treated to exciting trips to water slides and theme parks. Alicia was happiest laying on a beach or pool with her family and friends. Alicia had a quick wit until the end. She kept us laughing in good times and bad.
Alicia grew up in Massapequa, New York. She was one of five children of Jeanne and Richard Anderson, and graduated from Berner High School, where she met her husband, Mike. She always wanted to be a nurse. During high school, she worked at a local nursing home as a Candy Striper. She received her LPN at Flushing Hospital Medical Center and went on to attend the University of Southern Vermont to become a Registered Nurse. She joined the staff of Westerly Hospital in 1997 and worked there as an ICU nurse until her retirement in 2018.
Alicia was the family caregiver. She looked after her husband's parents, her husband, and her own parents, to ensure they received excellent care, were as comfortable as possible and, treated with respect.
Alicia will also be missed by her friends from Westerly Hospital, especially Rose Bliven and Lori Delmore. They loved lounging in the pool, visiting the casino, shopping the outlets and having spa days! Rose and Alicia partnered on shifts for almost 20 years and developed a deep friendship. Throughout Alicia’s long illness, Rose was always close by her side.
It was Alicia's wish that her services be private. Please, kindly omit flowers.
