Alice Eva Lessard Johnson, 91, of Wakefield, went to her maker on June 23 at South County Hospital. She was born in Warren, RI on July 13, 1920 and lived in South County almost her entire life. Alice was a woman who never rested nor did she care to. She served as a cub scout leader, a girl scout leader, and was a past president of the Girl Scout Council of RI. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the board of directors of the RI 4-H Foundation and in 1990 was inducted into the RI 4-H Volunteer Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Vasa Order of America, a food editor for the Narragansett Times and was particularly proud to have had several of her short stories published in the Horse Tales series. She was an avid quilter who met religiously with her beloved “Tuesday Group” for more than 50 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Norman Sr., sons Norman W. Jr of Ithaca, NY, Brian C. of Saunderstown, and Suzann E. Johnson Gertel of White House Station, NJ, grandchildren Elizabeth Beukema of Hammond, Wisconsin and Seth Johnson of Tunbridge, Vermont, as well as five great grandchildren, Haley, Garrett and Lillian Beukema and Zachary and Sylvia Johnson. She was the sister of Wesley Lessard Jr., Raymond Lessard of South Kingstown and the late Dorothy Lessard Caswell. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday 9-11 AM followed by a prayer service at 11 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to RI 4-H Foundation.
