Alice M. Green

Alice M. Green, 93, of South Kingstown, RI, passed away September 19, 2011. Born in Otisville, NY, she was a daughter of the late Sydney and May (Sheperd) Green. Alice attended nursing school in Hackensack, NJ, and joined the US Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She served aboard the US Hospital Ship Wisteria, making 10 trips across the Atlantic, attaining the rank of 1st Lt. Upon her discharge, Alice worked for the Dept. of Public Health in Staten Island, NY, Detroit, MI, and Norfolk, VA. After leaving Public Health, Alice became a Nurse Anesthetist at Roosevelt Hospital, and spent 40+ years in New York City. In 2001, she moved to RI to be near family. Alice was a member of the American Legion Post #1079, a charter member of Women In Service to America and the Otisville Alumni Association. Alice is survived by her nieces, Marsha A. Green of North Kingstown, RI; Bonnie M. (Green) Gray, of West Warwick, RI; and Phillice Vining of Kirkwood, WA. She was predeceased by her brother, Philip S. Green; sister, Dora Green Gilfillan; and nephew, Bruce Gilfillan. A private service with military honors will take place at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
