Agnes M. Gray "Nana", 95, of South County passed away on May 22, 2017 surrounded by close family. Known to many as Nana or 'Nana Banana' by her beloved grandchildren, she is survived by her two son's George and Richard Gray and her daughter in law, Mary Jane (Serpa) Gray, as well as her 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; her two sisters Margaret Ottaviano and Irene Gelardi, and her brother John Perry. Agnes had survived her late husband Irving Gray, and two daughters Maureen (Gray) McNulty and Nancy (Gray) Champlin. Since her birth in Canada on September 23, 1921, Agnes was a caring and compassionate woman. In addition to 'Nana Banana' she was lovingly deemed "The General" for her tell it like it is attitude and her inability to do anything halfway. Baking, cleaning, raising each and every one of us, playing, laughing and loving all, always 100%. Her 10 grandchildren aside, it seemed everyone across the state of Rhode Island and beyond had adopted Agnes as their "Nana". Everywhere she went she was greeted with hugs and warmth. It could have been the cookies and sweets always homemade but the Gray family has a hunch it was more so her enormous heart and her ability to make anyone feel like they had a home with her. Agnes spent 22 years living at Peace Dale house, 15 years serving at Scallop Shell and was a dedicated member of the the Rosary and Altar Society of St Thomas. Her dedication to the Catholic Church was unsurpassed, when she was able she went to church multiple times a week, a lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi and in more recent days had mass on television every morning and said the rosary twice a day. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 9 am in St Francis of Assisi 114 High St, Wakefield RI. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. Visiting Hours will be held Friday, May 26, from 4-7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home at 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield.
