Adele M. Hopkins, 85, of South Kingstown and Daytona Beach, FL passed away on Friday, January 2nd. Born in Lincoln RI to her loving parents, the late Lawrence and Laurette E (Dubuc) Carlson. She was the devoted wife to Robert G Hopkins for 30 years as of January 2026. After an unexpected illness, she came to RI where she could be with family where she passed peacefully.
She spent most of her career as a Human Resource Manager, most notably at the former Peterson Puritan Company in Cumberland and Rau Fastener in Cranston.
Her love of the ocean brought her to Matunuck and then to Florida where she had a second home. Previous to moving to Daytona Beach, her and her husband Bob lived in Key Largo and also Lauderdale-by-the Sea where they owned/operated two small pubs; the aptly named Ocean Mist and also Mrs. Murphy's Pub.
Adele loved her family and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known as Grams and often took her grandchildren on road trips to and from Florida, stopping at historical landmarks along the way. She attended all their weddings and enjoyed seeing their families grow. She was a social butterfly and her calendar was always full, especially with lunch dates with her friends. Spending most of the year in Florida, she was an active member of the social community where she resided. She loved live music and an ocean view and when in Matunuck loved dancing at the Ocean Mist with her daughter. She enjoyed reading, working in her garden, and sending handwritten cards to her friends/family and loved to travel. Adele and Bob took many road trips across the country and enjoyed daily walks together. She will be greatly missed. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Deborah M Garneau (DiNofa) of Wakefield RI, (Kevin Langevin partner); three Grandchildren, Janelle L Zuromski (Peter) of Glocester, RI, Julie N Zabatta (Francesco) of Smithfield, RI, Benjamin D Garneau (Emily) of Cranston RI; six great grandchildren, Anastasia, Viviana, Francesca Zabatta, Jake, Rowan and Callan Zuromski; brothers, Lawrence T Carlson of Narragansett and Robert L Carlson (Jackie) of England; sister in law, Debra McCurdy (Terry) of Wakefield, RI; brother in law, George Hopkins (Patty) of New Bedford Mass and former son in law, David Garneau of Daytona Beach Fl.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 8th from 10-11 am with a service immediately following at 11 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI 02879. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery Cremation Garden, 169 High St., Wakefield, RI.
