A. Barbara Babs Menihan

A. Barbara “Babs” Menihan, 97, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, died Saturday. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Menihan. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late William and Alice (Haggerty) Leslie. She graduated from South Kingstown High School, Class of 1935. She also graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in Providence and attended Rhode Island State College(URI). Mrs. Menihan was a secretary and bookkeeper for various south county businesses. In her youth she was an accomplished tennis player. She enjoyed spending time with her family, the beach, playing bridge, walking, knitting, reading and travelling. She is survived by two sons and their spouses, John J. ‘'Jack” Menihan, Jr., and Cydney of North Kingstown and Venice, FL and William L. Menihan and Suzan of North Kingstown; four granddaughters, four grandsons, and three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Daniel W. Menihan, and sister of the late William H. Leslie, Jr. Esq., Frances O’Neil, and Sister Grace Leslie, R.S.C.J. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday, 5-7 pm. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 70 Bath Street, Providence, RI 02908.
