Judith C. Marak

February 27, 1931 — June 7, 2018

Judith C. Marak, 87, of Wakefield died on June 7th. Judy was born in New York City and grew up in Connecticut and New Jersey and spent time briefly in Florida. Upon graduating from high school in Fairfield, she married Robert Marak and they moved from Connecticut to Falmouth, Mass. where their children, Debbie, Dick, Valerie, and Philip were raised. Judy was always ready for adventures and eagerly accepted moves to Juneau and Rome because of Bobs work. While in Juneau, she expanded her baking skills to include regular batches of bread and continued her interest in the theater by joining the local drama group, a continuation of her and Bobs hard work with the Falmouth Theater Guild. Another group that she and Bob participated in with great enthusiasm was the Falmouth Interfaith Choir. They sang in every concert for a number of years. Judy also worked outside the home at Elsies Sandwich Shop, a popular former Falmouth eatery. Her children all reaped the benefits of her many craft and home-making skills, and they appreciated the time and energy she gave in supporting their schools, sports, and scouting endeavors. Her year in Rome gave her the opportunity to pursue the study of Italian language, cooking, and culture while making lasting friendships with people the world over. Judys final household move was to Rhode Island, where she soon became deeply involved in the General Federation of Womens Clubs (GFWC), served a term as the state president, one and a half terms as local president, and received their first-ever Club Woman of the Year Award. She supported many activities that the local chapter organized such as the Antique and Craft Marketplace, Book and Author luncheons, sales, fundraisers and current interest speakers. In addition to her civic work with the Womens Club, she had been a volunteer at South County Hospital. Judy also became an ardent supporter of the Exeter Library both before and after it existed. Debbie and John, Dick and Cathy, Valerie and Tony, and Philip and Karen will all greatly miss her fantastic, creative cooking and elaborate meals which included her carefully planned floral arrangements. Judy and Bob played a supporting role in the childhoods of their grandchildren, Jennifer Langbehn and Andrew Dohrmann, and in recent years Judy welcomed two great-grandsons, Connor and Brendan Langbehn. Judys home was always warm and welcome. She hosted visitors from all facets of her and her familys life and considered them family. Along with several family members, she was able to travel to Germany last October to spend two weeks with longtime friends whom shed met in Rome.
