Daniel Leo Morrissey, Jr.

Daniel Leo Morrissey, Jr. 93, of Green Hill passed away peacefully on December 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Estelle (Alukonis) Morrissey, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. Born in Providence, RI on May 15, 1927, Dan was the son of the late Dr. Daniel Leo and Rosalind (Beagan) Morrissey. He resided in Cranston for 50 years before retiring in Green Hill. Dan enlisted in the Coast Guard and served proudly aboard the U.S.S. General D.E. Aultman during World War II. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, Dan went on to become a member of the freshman basketball team at Providence College where he graduated in 1950. He had been a manufacturer’s representative specializing in religious goods for 57 years. He later founded Elizabeth Industries. Dan was a member of the Sons of Irish Kings, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, National Church Goods Association, Eastern Church Goods Association, and a founding member of the Green Hill Beach Club. Dan’s greatest love was his family. He cherished the time he spent with Estelle, his five children, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He loved watching the Patriots, reading, and playing the piano at every family event. Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Daniel Morrissey III and his wife Joanne, Michael Morrissey and his wife Ann, Patricia Fogarty and her husband Daniel, and Stephen Morrissey all of South Kingstown, and Elizabeth McKanna and her husband Stephen of Narragansett. He was the cherished grandfather of Kailie, Daniel, Emilie, Nathan, Samuel, Meg, Jessica, Daniel, Olivia, Zachary, Abigail, Austin, and the great grandfather of Bryce and Carolyn. Dan was the brother of Joseph T. Morrissey and the late John P. Morrissey and Rosalind M. Flynn. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a memorial to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at a future date.
