Agnes Cynthia Sebastian

August 26, 1937 — July 1, 2021

Agnes Sebastian, 83, of Wakefield, died unexpectedly July 1, 2021 at home. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late George S., Jr. and Margaret M. (Hazard) Peckham. Ms. Sebastian had a passion for teaching preschoolers and loved to tell their stories. As one of the original founders of CANE Child Development Center, she taught and cared for children of the community for over 40 years at CANE Child Development Center and the Mashantucket Pequot Child Development Center, before retiring in the early 2000’s. In the mid ‘70’s Agnes also helped create the “Teenage Clique”, a program offered at the St. Francis Church that gave teens living in South Kingstown a safe place to come make a difference and stay off the streets. Agnes was also a proud member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. She is survived by her children Don Ricardo Sebastian; Amondo Sebastian; and Mark Sebastian; Lisa Robinson, Cynthia Sebastian-Welch; and Tanisha Sebastian; brother, Wilbur Stanton; niece, Vivian Hazard and nephew, Bruce Hazard; 21 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren; as well as many nieces; nephews; and cousins. Other than her parents, Agnes was predeceased by her daughter, Ann M. Sebastian; brother, George S. Peckham, III,; and sisters, Pearl P. Peckham, Gladys L. Hazard and Judy A. Johnson. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 8th, 2021 from 10-12pm with service to begin at 12 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be private on a date in the near future.
